March 2011 - Luxury Junior Suite Texas
We just got back from a lovely week at Cuisinart, made so much more enjoyable because of your successful efforts (Agent - Nenna) Our room was SO spacious, wonderful in every way - loved the huge shower and the outdoor shower! Thank you so much!
We reallly enjoyed Anguilla - every part of it. The people are the friendliest I've ever encountered over years of traveling all over the world, including in the Caribbean. They were just amazing - always, without fail, stopping on the street to say hello or offer directions. We did rent a car (from Island Car Rental) which was a must-do I think. First, saved a lot of money ($50/day)over the very high taxi fares (even though we engaged a driver, who gave us some reduction over the regular zoned rates). I loved having the car! It was simple to "drive on the left" and we even went to daVida and drove home late w/out a problem. We also visited Viceroy, Cap Juluca (had an extended tour there, including their new, uber-expensive villas for sale) and Malliouhana. Of those, liked Cap Juluca the most as it like Cuisinart, on the beach w/easy access. Viceroy was HUGE and "over the top"--met a few people who were staying there who said it was like being in Soho (NYC) and not in the Caribbean. We did, however, really like Cuisinart. It is getting a bit tired in places and the food at the breakfasts and buffets (we ate at the Tuesday night buffet) was not always done correctly. A lot of people did not like the food at the buffets - too much of it and quality lacking over quantity. But the people there were wonderful - always friendly, kind and helpful. We just loved the place - the beach was great, espec the daily sorbet, a nice touch. The water was perfect and so easy to get to the beach from our lovely room.
Restaurants were always fun--never have seen so many that are RIGHT on the sand, which we adored!! By far and away, Veya was out top pick for food and setting. daVida 2nd for setting, w/food quite good but some temperatures cold - still great though. Jacala was a nice setting but food was only fair--guy seemed to be more about "show" than the actual food quality. Barrel Stay, lovely setting but food just ok. Food perfect at Coba (Viceroy), our last night, but again, just felt like we were in a BIG sterile room parachuted from South Beach Miami. Wish we'd make it to Blanchard's, as most people still like it. We used the car to go to Scilly Cay Wed afternoon (only open Wed and Sun for lunch) and it was great! The setting and food was super. Really enjoyed that. Also went to Mangoes, which was pretty good, though not on a par with daVida or Veya. Strawhat was great for lunch. Love their beachfront setting.
